01

Connection & Bluetooth Fixes

My DualSense is paired via Bluetooth, but DualSenseX says “Disconnected”?

This is often caused by Exclusive Mode conflicts or Windows “ghost” devices. Follow these steps:

  • Remove Device: Go to Windows Settings > Bluetooth > Remove “Wireless Controller”.
  • Reset Controller: Press the small reset button on the back of the DualSense with a paperclip for 5 seconds.
  • Re-pair: Hold PS Button + Share Button until the light flashes, then re-pair.
  • App Priority: Ensure Steam or DS4Windows is completely closed (check Task Manager), as they may be hijacking the HID signal.

How to fix high latency (Input Lag) over Bluetooth?

Bluetooth interference is common in 2026 due to the density of wireless devices. To achieve < 3ms latency:

Avoid USB 3.0 Ports USB 3.0 ports create 2.4GHz interference. Plug your BT dongle into a USB 2.0 port.
External Antenna If using a PC motherboard, ensure the Wi-Fi/BT antenna is screwed in, even if using Ethernet.

Does v1.4.9 support Adaptive Triggers over Bluetooth?

Partial Support. While basic trigger resistance works over Bluetooth in v1.4.9, the Audio-to-Haptics (Advanced Vibration) feature requires a USB-C connection due to the bandwidth limitations of the Windows Bluetooth stack.

02

Driver & Virtualization Errors

Error: “Could not connect to ViGEmBus Driver. Is it installed?”

This is the most common error for new users. DualSenseX uses ViGEmBus to trick Windows into thinking your PS5 controller is an Xbox 360 controller.

The Solution:
  1. Open Add or Remove Programs and uninstall any old versions of ViGEmBus.
  2. Restart your computer (Mandatory).
  3. Download and install the ViGEmBus Runtime Installer v1.22.0 from our download page.
  4. If it still fails, check Device Manager under “System Devices” for “Virtual Gamepad Emulation Bus”. If it has a yellow warning icon, right-click and “Update Driver”.

Double Input Issue: Why does my game see two controllers?

This happens because the game sees the original Wireless Controller AND the Xbox 360 Emulated Controller at the same time.

Fix with HidHide: Install HidHide, open its configuration, and in the “Applications” tab, add DualSenseX.exe. In the “Devices” tab, check “Wireless Controller” and toggle “Enable Device Hiding”. This ensures only DualSenseX can see your real controller.

DualSenseX opens and then immediately closes?

This is almost always a .NET Runtime issue. DualSenseX v1.4.9 requires the .NET 6.0 Desktop Runtime (x64).

Note: The “Console” or “SDK” versions of .NET will not work. Ensure you download the “Desktop” version specifically.

03

Game Compatibility & Trigger Fixes

Why aren’t Adaptive Triggers working in my game?

If DualSenseX shows the triggers are active but you feel nothing in-game, check these three common culprits:

  • Audio Output: For “Audio-to-Haptics”, your Windows default playback device must be set to “DualSense Wireless Controller” (USB only).
  • Steam Input: If playing through Steam, right-click the game > Properties > Controller > Disable Steam Input. Steam’s own driver often overrides DualSenseX.
  • Mod Mode: Ensure you haven’t set the Trigger Mode to “Normal” by mistake. It must be set to “Rigid”, “Vibration”, or a specific Preset.

Controller works in menus but not during gameplay?

This usually indicates an emulation mismatch. Games have different “preferences” for controllers:

Game Type Recommended Emulation
Older Games / GamePass Xbox 360 (Max Compatibility)
Sony PC Ports (Spider-Man, GOW) DualShock 4 (For PS Icons)
Native DS Support (Cyberpunk) Off (Let the game handle it)

Special Case: Elden Ring / Ubisoft Games

Games like Elden Ring or Assassin’s Creed are notorious for “Spinning Camera” bugs. This is caused by the game trying to read both the emulated and real controller. You MUST use the HidHide method mentioned in Section 3 to hide the “Wireless Controller” from these specific titles.

04

Performance & Firmware Optimization

How to reduce high CPU usage by DualSenseX?

If DualSenseX v1.4.9 is consuming too many resources, it’s usually due to the Audio-to-Haptics sampling rate.

  • Lower Refresh Rate: Inside DSX settings, increase the “Thread Sleep” or “Refresh Interval” to reduce background polling.
  • Minimize to Tray: Always use the “Start Minimized” option. Rendering the UI (User Interface) consumes GPU/CPU cycles unnecessarily during gameplay.
  • Disable LED Animations: Rainbow or complex RGB pulse effects can cause minor CPU spikes on older processors.

Should I update my DualSense Firmware for v1.4.9?

Yes. Sony’s firmware updates often improve Bluetooth stability and trigger response times. You don’t need a PS5 to update.

How to update on PC:

Download the official “Firmware updater for DualSense wireless controller” from PlayStation’s website. Connect via USB and run the tool before launching DualSenseX.

Battery Life: How to make it last longer?

The DualSense battery drains quickly due to the powerful haptic motors. In DualSenseX:

  1. Set LED Brightness to “Dim” or turn it off entirely.
  2. Reduce Haptic Intensity to 70%. The difference in “feel” is minimal, but battery life can increase by 20-30%.
  3. Use the “Auto-Off” timer in DualSenseX to shut down the controller after 10 minutes of inactivity.
05

Emulation Modes: Which one to choose?

DualSenseX v1.4.9 allows you to transform your PS5 controller into different virtual devices. Selecting the wrong mode is the #1 reason for “buttons not working” in specific games.

When should I use “Xbox 360” Emulation?

This is the **Universal Compatibility Mode**. Since almost every Windows game supports XInput (Xbox controllers), this mode ensures your DualSense works everywhere, including Xbox Game Pass titles.

Trade-off: You will see Xbox button prompts (A, B, X, Y) in-game instead of PlayStation icons (Square, Triangle, etc.).

When should I use “DualShock 4” Emulation?

Use this if you want **PlayStation button prompts** in supported games (like God of War, Horizon, or Death Stranding).

Note: Not all PC games recognize DS4 controllers. If your controller isn’t responding in DS4 mode, switch back to Xbox 360 mode.

When to turn Emulation “OFF”?

Turn emulation off only if the game has **Native DualSense Support** (e.g., Cyberpunk 2077 via USB). In this case, the game communicates directly with the controller, and DualSenseX only acts as a tool to customize the LED or monitor the battery.

06

Handhelds: Rog Ally, Legion Go & Steam Deck

Conflict: Built-in controls vs DualSenseX?

On devices like the Rog Ally or Lenovo Legion Go, the built-in Xbox controller often takes “Player 1” priority, causing DualSenseX to appear as “Player 2” (no response in games).

The Fix: You must Disable the Embedded Controller in the device’s Command Center (Asus Armoury Crate / Legion Space) before launching DualSenseX. This forces the game to recognize the DualSense as the primary input.

Can I run DualSenseX on Steam Deck (Windows)?

Yes. If you have installed Windows on your Steam Deck, DualSenseX v1.4.9 works perfectly. However, Steam Deck Tools or Handheld Companion may conflict with ViGEmBus.

Ensure any “Xbox 360 Controller Emulation” within other handheld utilities is Turned Off to prevent driver crashes.

Warning: Battery drain on Handhelds

Running DualSenseX with “Audio-to-Haptics” active will slightly increase CPU power draw (approx. 1-2W). On a 40Wh handheld battery, this may reduce play time by 5-10 minutes. For maximum battery, keep the DSX window minimized.

07

Audio-to-Haptics & Sound Routing

I set Audio-to-Haptics, but now my game has no sound?

This happens because Windows sends all audio to the controller’s internal vibration motors (which act like speakers) instead of your headset.

How to Mirror Audio:
  1. You need an audio router like VoiceMeeter or VB-Audio Cable.
  2. Set your Windows Output to the “Virtual Cable”.
  3. In the routing software, send the audio to TWO places: Your Headphones AND the DualSense Wireless Controller.
  4. Now the game sound goes to your ears, and the low-frequency data goes to the haptic motors.

Why is the Haptic Vibration so weak in Audio Mode?

DualSense haptics respond best to Low Frequencies (Bass). If the vibration is weak:

  • Increase Controller Volume: Go to Sound Settings > DualSense Properties > Levels. Set it to 100%.
  • Adjust Gain in DSX: In the Audio-to-Haptics tab, increase the “Gain” slider to amplify the incoming signal.
  • Frequency Filter: Set the “Cutoff Frequency” to around 150Hz. This ensures only the thumping bass triggers the motors, preventing a constant, “buzzy” feeling.

Does it matter if I use Quadraphonic or Stereo?

Yes. For native PS5 haptics to work correctly in Windows, the DualSense must be set to “Quadraphonic” (4-channel) in the Windows Speaker Configuration. v1.4.9 relies on these extra channels to separate standard vibration from complex haptic effects.

08

Recommended Game Presets

Not sure which trigger mode to use? We’ve tested DualSenseX v1.4.9 with the most popular PC titles to find the most immersive settings.

Game Title Emulation Mode Trigger Preset Vibe
Cyberpunk 2077 Off (Native USB) Game Controlled Adaptive
Elden Ring / Souls Xbox 360 (HidHide) Rigid (Start: 2, End: 5) Heavy Shield
Forza / Racing Xbox 360 Resistance (Value: 6) Gas Pedal
CoD / Battlefield DualShock 4 Vibration (Freq: 20Hz) Recoil Feedback
Spider-Man Remastered Off (Native) Audio-to-Haptics Web-Slinging

How to save custom profiles for each game?

In the v1.4.9 “Profiles” tab, you can create a new profile for each game. Currently, there is no automatic auto-launch detection in the open-source version, so you must manually switch profiles in the taskbar icon before starting your game.

09

Windows 11 (2026) & DualSense Edge Support

Does v1.4.9 support the DualSense Edge (Pro Controller)?

Limited Support. Since the Edge model was released after the final open-source push of v1.4.9, the extra “Back Paddles” and “Fn Buttons” are not natively remappable within this specific version.

💡 Workaround: Map your paddles on a PS5 console first. The controller stores these settings in its “On-Board Memory,” which DualSenseX will then respect even on PC.

Windows 11 “Core Isolation” / “Memory Integrity” Error

Recent Windows 11 security updates (2025-2026) may block ViGEmBus or HidHide due to “Incompatible Drivers” in Core Isolation.

Resolution: You must update HidHide to the latest “MS (Microsoft) Certified” version (v1.4.x or higher). If the error persists, you may need to temporarily disable “Memory Integrity” in Windows Settings > Device Security, though we recommend updating the drivers first.

Is DualSenseX compatible with Wi-Fi 7 / Bluetooth 5.4?

Yes. The latest Bluetooth 5.4 adapters provide much better stability for DualSenseX. If you are using a new 2026 PC build, ensure you are using the standard Microsoft Bluetooth Stack and not third-party “Intel Killer” drivers, which can cause the app to crash during polling.

10

Macros & Advanced Trigger Modding

Can I create Macros (Rapid Fire/Combos) in v1.4.9?

Yes. The open-source version includes a robust Macro editor. You can bind complex sequences (like a “Super Glide” in Apex Legends or a “One-Button Combo” in Fighting games) to any button.

Pro Tip: To use Macros, you must ensure your Emulation Mode is set to Xbox 360 or DualShock 4. Macros will not trigger in “Off” (Passthrough) mode because the app cannot intercept the raw hardware signal.

How do I create a “Hair Trigger” effect for FPS games?

A “Hair Trigger” reduces the distance you need to pull L2/R2 to fire. In DualSenseX:

  • Go to the Triggers Tab.
  • Set the mode to “Machine Gun” or “Very Rigid”.
  • Set the Start Position to 1 and the End Position to 2.
  • This makes the trigger feel like a mouse click, giving you a massive advantage in competitive shooters.

Syncing Controller LED with PC Audio?

Under the Lightbar settings, you can enable “Audio Sync”. The DualSense LED will pulse based on the volume of your game.

Note: For this to work without lag, ensure your “Audio Device” in DualSenseX settings matches your actual Windows playback device.
